Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I engaged in protected sex with my partner. My usual period date is the 17th of the month, but it was delayed. Additionally, I have not been eating well, and I am dealing with thyroid issues. The stress and depression from family problems have been causing sleepless nights with tears. I missed my period, but on the 45th day, on the second of the next month, I experienced a brown-colored discharge from my vagina. It occurred once, and now there is no further bleeding. I confirmed that the condom did not break. I am wondering about the possible reasons for this situation. Could it be related to PCOD (polycystic ovary syndrome) or stress issues?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

The brown discharge you experienced around the 45th day after your missed period could be due to the shedding of the uterine lining that occurs during menstruation. It is sometimes called "spotting" and can occur between periods. The stress and hormonal changes related to your thyroid condition and depression may have contributed to your irregular periods. If you had protected sex around the time of your missed period, it is possible that you could still be pregnant. However, if you have not experienced any further symptoms of pregnancy, such as nausea, fatigue, or breast tenderness, it is less likely.

If the condom did not break during protected sex, it is possible that sperm were present in your partner's semen but did not reach your uterus or fertilize an egg. However, it is also possible that the condom did not provide complete protection, in which case you may want to consider emergency contraception or getting tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you have concerns about your reproductive health or pregnancy, take a home urine pregnancy test and seek medical advice.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
