Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

I have a scalp infection and also had it in the past. I also have hair loss, dandruff, and severe itching.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Dandruff, also known as seborrheic capitis, can cause intense itching as well as greasy to dry flakes on the scalp. Excessive perspiration, hereditary vulnerability, greasy skin, hormonal changes, constant usage of helmets and caps, and decreased immunity are the most prevalent causes of dandruff. It is important to keep any caps or helmets clean, well washed and disinfected, and sun-exposed from time to time, to avoid the formation of fungal components, which can lead to fungal infection on the scalp.

I suggest you to follow these steps:

1. Use anti-dandruff shampoo:

Mix three to four drops of the shampoo in 1/3 cup of water (the cup which is used for bathing). The lather formed is to be applied on the scalp and massaged for one minute, keep it for 5 minutes, and wash it off. Use once every three days for the next six to eight months and in cases of future recurrences.

2. Capsule Itraconazole 200 mg (antifungal): Consume one capsule after dinner for 2 weeks. This is an antifungal which helps in reducing the fungal elements which in turn helps in reducing the itching and other symptoms as well

3. Tablet. Levocet M (antihistamine): Consume this tablet daily for two hours before going to sleep at night for 1 week. This helps in reducing itching

4. Make sure to avoid stagnation of sweat and moisture on the scalp and make sure to wipe off any excess sweat whenever they do appear. Make sure to clean the inside of the helmets and wash caps if they are being used and expose them in the sun from time to time.

Dandruff tends to be recurrent and can come back in case of any hormonal fluctuations or excess sweating during climatic changes. Therefore, these medications can be used during future recurrences as well.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
