Can a red itchy groin rash be caused by Jock Itch?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I noticed a red spot (possibly a rash) that has spread to a nearby mole in my groin area near the left thigh. It does not hurt, but it sometimes feels itchy. I also experience a slight burning sensation when washing the area with soap.
I suspect this may be Jock Itch, so I purchased over-the-counter Clotrimazole and have started using it. However, I would like a dermatologist's opinion to ensure that I am not misdiagnosing myself. Could you please confirm whether this is indeed Jock Itch, or if it might be a different condition?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
This is not a fungal infection or Jock Itch. This is an allergic reaction.
-
It will not improve with Clotrimazole or any other antifungal cream. For this, I suggest you start a steroid-based ointment. In addition, use a moisturizer over the affected area twice a day to prevent recurrence.
-
It is going to take a few weeks for complete recovery. There is no investigation required at the moment. You need to apply a single ointment twice daily.
-
Use Hydrocortisone 1% cream twice daily over the affected area for three weeks. This will be available over the counter.
I suggest you follow up with me after three weeks.
I hope that this answers your query.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
