Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having skin issues in my thigh and face. I had a doctor consultation and have taken Itraconazole capsule for more than 45 to 50 days. When I stop, it seems fine, but later the symptoms return. Is it advisable to continue this medication? My doctor said to continue for one more month. Is it safe?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Is it a rash? Or annular inflammatory ring-like lesions? Please attach a clinical picture to assess the extent of involvement so I can guide you accordingly.

Thanks and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

My doctor said it is tinea corporis and tinea facia. Initially, I had more, but now it is completely cured. But when I stopped the tablet for two days, it seemed to be itching and did not look like a rash this time. If I scratch, it gets thick, and once I apply the cream (Lulitec cream), it is okay. Taking the Itraconazole capsule stops my itching, but how long can I take this medicine?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I suggest the following.

1. Take Itraconazole capsule 100 mg twice daily for ten days, then it has to be tapered for a few days. Not to take more than three weeks.

2. Keep the area always dry. Wear dry clothes.

3. Use Ketoconazole soap for baths for two months. Maintain good hygiene.

4. Avoid heat, moisture, friction, and scratching or rubbing of the lesion.

5. Continue Luliconazole cream twice daily for three weeks.

6. Take Tablet Levocetirizine, one tablet twice daily for seven days in case of itching.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I have been taking the Itraconazole capsule for almost two months. I am attaching the current image for the lesion. It is not spreading except in the previously affected areas. Sometimes if I scratch, the area becomes dark, and the itching reduces when using medicines. I do not have excess scratching, and I sweat normally. My sugar levels are normal. I wear loose clothes and cotton underwear, and I have an IT job where I have to sit before the system.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I would suggest the following measures.

1. Apply Miconazole cream in the evening on facial lesions and other areas of infection.

2. Apply Luliconazole cream twice daily in the morning and night for three weeks.

3. Wear loose-fitting cotton clothes.

4. Avoid wearing tight undergarments.

5. Avoid scratching and rubbing of lesions as it may cause secondary bacterial infection and spreading of fungal infection.

6. It is contagious, so avoid sharing personal belongings like towels, soap, etc.

Tinea corporis and Tinea Faciei result from moisture and fungal growth. It is a superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes. They are usually harmless, but due to poor hygiene and sweating, they find preferable conditions to multiply.

It will take four to six weeks to go if proper precautions and treatment are taken. Therefore, I suggest you follow the treatment plan mentioned above.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Can I use Ketoconazole soap for full use or in the affected area alone? Previously I did not answer the dosage. Itraconazole capsule dosage of 200 mg was given in the first month and 130 mg for the second month. Now I am discussing this with you.

Thanks for the above medicines. I will follow the same.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You can use the soap for the entire area. Discontinue Itraconazole capsule. Tablet Terbinafine 250 mg once daily after dinner for 14 days can be taken instead. If you have excess sweating, use Adzorb (antifungal) dusting powder after taking a bath for one month to control sweating in areas of friction.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
