Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife and I are trying to get pregnant, so we got some tests done for my wife. I have attached the reports. We showed the report to the gynecologist, and they suggested IVF. Can you please check the reports and let me know?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) level is used for the assessment of ovarian reserve (a lady is usually born with a specific number of ova (eggs). When she gets to puberty, these ova are released during ovulation, and when the ova becomes exhausted, she enters menopause.

So if your AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) is low, it indicates a very low ovarian reserve and is considered an indication that the lady will soon go into ovarian insufficiency (ovarian failure). I guess that is why you have been advised to go for IVF (in vitro fertilization). So that her ova can be used for the procedure. This is, however, subjective, as the quality of her ova also matters. All these would be assessed before the IVF procedure, and the right counseling would be given to you if they would use her ova or recommend donor ova. I also noticed that she is only 31 years old, so I recommend that she may need some genetic screening to determine why she has low ovarian reserve at this age, and most low ovarian reserve is found only in women above the age of 40.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is the report implying too much AMH? Is it possible to have a spontaneous pregnancy with an FSH of 29.53 mIu/mL? Also, could you kindly assist us in determining where we should seek advice?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Her AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) level is 0.1 ng/ml. Any result less than 0.3 ng/ml is considered extremely low. Natural pregnancy is not realistically achievable. Her only choice is IVF (in vitro fertilization).

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
