What could be done to stop the jaw from protruding?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Why is my jaw going backward? Please guide.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the lateral profile of your face (attachments removed to protect patient identity), and I can understand your concern.

You seem to have anteriorly placed maxillary teeth (maxillary protrusion). If you feel your facial profile is deteriorating with time, you need to opt for dental braces (fixed orthodontic treatment) to get your lower jaw in shape. It looks to you that your jaw is growing backward, but in reality, your upper teeth are growing forward.

In case you have any clicking sounds or swelling, which I cannot appreciate by checking the pictures you uploaded to us, you can upload more images and a proper history to get a better diagnosis and a proper treatment plan suggestion.

I hope my answer will help you.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
