Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 25 years old, and I had irregularly arranged teeth and protruded upper teeth. I had braces without extraction. Now, my first premolars and canines flared up. Should I go for extraction and then put on braces again to correct my teeth arrangement? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and attachments (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). Yes, there is flaring of teeth. This is due to excess tooth material than the available space to pull the teeth into proper alignment. Space can be created by extraction, expansion, or by proximal reduction. Selection of the method of space gaining may vary depending on age, space requirements, etc. In your case, as per attachments, clinical examination, cephalometric evaluation, and model analysis are must to predict the space gaining method. If the space required is minimal, you can discuss a proximal reduction in the upper and lower arch to gain some space and reduce the flare with your orthodontist. But if you do not want to put on the braces again, and if the cost is not an issue, you can go for clear aligners for these corrections. I hope the above information has cleared your doubts. Take care.
