Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am experiencing pain on my left kidney side, but it is not severe; it hurts occasionally, typically after one to two days. Sometimes it feels like the left side is in pain. However, since this evening, I have been having pain on the right side under the chest, in the right rib cage. I cannot accurately specify the exact location. Additionally, I feel like my eyes and face have been swollen for two days, and I am feeling very low and sleepy.

Please help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Based on your description, it seems you may have an underlying medical condition that requires further evaluation by a healthcare provider. The pain in your left kidney side and right rib cage could be a sign of kidney stones, a urinary tract infection, or another kidney-related issue. The swelling in your eyes and face might be due to fluid buildup (edema) caused by an underlying medical condition or medication side effects. The feeling of low energy and sleepiness could also be related to an underlying medical condition or medication side effects. It is crucial to seek medical attention if your symptoms persist or worsen, especially if you have a history of kidney or other medical conditions. Your healthcare provider can conduct diagnostic tests and provide appropriate treatment based on the underlying cause of your symptoms.

To diagnose the underlying cause of your symptoms, your healthcare provider may perform the following tests:

  1. Urinalysis: This test involves examining a urine sample to check for signs of infection, kidney stones, or other abnormalities.
  2. Blood tests: These tests can help evaluate kidney function and identify any underlying medical conditions.
  3. Imaging studies: X-rays, CT (computed tomography) scans or ultrasounds may be used to visualize the kidneys and other organs in the abdomen and pelvis.
  4. Physical examination: Your healthcare provider will examine you and ask questions about your symptoms and medical history.

The treatment for your symptoms will depend on the underlying cause. Some common treatments for kidney-related issues include:

  1. Medications: Antibiotics may be prescribed to treat urinary tract infections or other bacterial infections. Pain relievers may be recommended to manage pain associated with kidney stones or other conditions.
  2. Fluid intake: Drinking plenty of water can help prevent dehydration and promote the passage of kidney stones.
  3. Dietary changes: Certain dietary adjustments, such as reducing salt intake or increasing fluid intake, may be recommended to manage fluid buildup or other kidney-related issues.
  4. Surgery: In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to remove large kidney stones or address other underlying medical conditions.

It is essential to follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully and promptly report any changes in your symptoms to them.

Wishing you excellent health. Thank you.
