What causes recurrent pain in the left side of the abdomen?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from pain in the left side of my abdomen for the last few weeks. Why so?

Please help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I suggest that the pain in the left side of the abdomen may occur due to a number of causes. It could be due to a urinary tract infection (nausea, vomiting, fever, or chills), kidney stones (urine is pink, red, brown, and cloudy with a foul smell. Urination is very painful and frequent), an ovarian cyst (pelvic pain before or during the menstrual cycle), ovarian torsion (sudden, severe pain in the pelvic area), ectopic pregnancy (a missed period and other pregnancy signs), or muscle spasm.

I suggest you do an ultrasound to exclude renal and ovarian causes. Also, if you perform heavy exercises, you can take a hot bath.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
