Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been diagnosed with a 0.196 inch kidney stone. It has made its way to my bladder. At the age of 16, I had three stones at once. However, now I believe I have an infection in my urethra, or the stone is stuck there. I have constant itching and burning sensation when I urinate. I also feel the need to push something out. Currently, I am taking the tablets Alyacen, Metoprolol, and Tamsulosin. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is good that the stone has made its way into your bladder and is no longer stuck in the kidney or ureter. The stone of 0.196 inch will easily pass out of the bladder without getting stuck (if it’s not already passed out) as the female urethra has enough room to pass. The burning sensation is likely due to the stone having recently passed through the urethra and scraped the lining. Please follow the mentioned medication and suggestions: Tablet Pyridium (Phenazopyridine) 200 mg three times a day for three days (it turns your bright urine orange, so do not worry), tablet Cranpac D (Cranberry extract and D-mannose), one tablet in the morning and one at night for ten days, and tablet Tamsulosin 0.4 mg, one tablet at night for seven days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them and take medications with their consent. For prevention, I would suggest you: Drink 0.79 liquid gallons of fluids per day without fail. Cut down on dark chocolate and nuts. Consume no more than one glass of milk per day. Drink lemonade or cranberry juice a few times a week. Kindly follow up if you develop a fever or the symptoms that do not subside in a couple of days. Also, kindly upload any CT (computed tomography) scan, blood, or urine reports for me to review.

Thank you.
