How to heal a broken patella without plaster or a surgery?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. I fell from a bike and injured my knee three days ago. I feel that a minor part of the patella was broken. How can one heal this part of the patella without plaster or surgery? Kindly help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

First, you need to get an X-ray of the affected knee joint. A decision can be made only after seeing the X-rays. Till then, you need to immobilize the joint with a readymade leg knee splint.

  1. Apply ice daily.
  2. You need to take the following medicines. Take a tablet of Ibuprofen 400 mg 10 days after food.
  3. Take a tablet of Rabeprazole 20 mg 10 days before food.
  4. Take a tablet of Shelcal (Calcium) 500 mg for 30 days before food.
  5. Take a tablet of Vitamin D once daily x 10 days.
  6. Take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them. Do not take these tablets if you have bronchial asthma. Follow up immediately in case of any untoward reactions.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
