How to manage uneven hair texture and partial curliness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am experiencing an unusual issue with my hair. About 60 percent of my hair is straight, but the remaining portion is medium to curly. When I pluck a strand of curly hair, its thickness varies along the length: it starts thick, then becomes thinner for a few millimeters, then thickens again, and continues this pattern, with the strand also twisting along its axis. In contrast, a straight hair strand maintains a consistent thickness from root to tip.

Based on my research, I suspect I may have developed partial curly hair. Could you help me understand the causes of this and what I can do to make my hair uniform in thickness along each strand?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Some people do suffer from this problem. There is no permanent care. However, there are certain options that you can try. Recently liquid keratin treatments are available which have a longer-lasting effect and keep your hair straight for at least 20 hair washes. Any professional hair stylist can guide you about this.

There are some good chemical hair straightening creams available, and this gives your hair a fine texture for a long period. Again, your hairdresser can guide you about how to use it and which one is the best for you (there are some good brands available, like a hair straightener). Try to pick up one with keratin. Even chemical relaxers are useful; however, their effect is very short-lived, and I will ask you to avoid them. Do remember that you need to go for such treatment regularly, like once a month; sadly, there is no permanent cure.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
