Can having iron deficiency anemia or vertigo cause dizziness?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I feel lightheaded right before I sleep and when I wake up early in the morning. What could this be? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. The positional sudden dizziness that you are experiencing is a common condition that can occur due to -
Vertigo occurs due to an imbalance in the inner ear fluid. You could have other symptoms such as a ringing sound in the ear and some dizziness but are not associated with vomiting.
An iron deficiency which is myelophthisic anemia usually causes dizziness.
For the first condition, there are exercises for BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) that you can avail and avoid sudden awakening from a lying down position, instead turn to one side and wake up slowly. Secondly, there are medications for the same and I could prescribe them to you along with iron syrups so that the symptoms are relieved
