What could be the reason for the lightheadedness when I wake up?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am experiencing lightheadedness and a feeling of faintness when I wake up with my eyes closed. It goes away within five to ten seconds.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Waking up with your eyes closed is called sleepwalking; it is a type of somnambulism, a type of sleep disorder. I would suggest the following tests:

  1. Neurological examination and electroencephalogram to rule out epilepsy.
  2. Complete blood count to rule out anemia.
  3. Blood electrolytes, and a complete biochemistry panel to look for related deficiencies.

After getting the laboratory results, consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
