How can elevated liver enzymes be managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Could you please analyze my lipid profile and liver test results? I have noticed that some values are on the high end. Currently, I am taking the following medications: Rosuvastatin 10 mg (one tablet daily) and Amlodipine Besylate 5 mg (one tablet daily). I am a chain smoker and smoke an average of 20 to 25 cigarettes daily.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your liver enzymes are slightly elevated, and your lipid profile is somewhat abnormal, for which you are taking Rosuvastatin. Rosuvastatin can sometimes cause liver function to become impaired. How long have you been taking Rosuvastatin or any other lipid-lowering medications? If your liver function was normal before starting Rosuvastatin and has become deranged afterward, I would advise you to continue taking it and recheck your liver function tests (LFTs) in two months. If the levels increase further, stop the statin and recheck the levels in two months. If you experience muscle pain, fatigue, or other symptoms, check your creatine kinase levels. Make sure to exercise regularly and quit smoking immediately. Please follow up after one month.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
