Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Four months back, I had food poison and was under antibiotic. After that, there was continuous semisolid motion, loss of appetite, gastric trouble, and loss of weight. Doctors have taken several tests and it came normal. I do not know what happened to me. Then one of my friends told me to check vitamin B12. If it is low, you might face these problems. Then I took the test. Is it true that vitamin B12 will create this problem? It was 300. I am attaching the report here. Please help me in this issue.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms are unlikely to be vitamin B12 related. Moreover, the report (attachment removed to protect patient identity) looks alright. These symptoms can happen transiently after an infection but usually gets better with time.

I need some more information regarding your symptoms like:

  1. What is your bowel frequency? times/day.
  2. Any measurement of the weight you lost?
  3. What all labs were done which were found to be normal (if available, no problem else).

Please revert with specifics so that I can give complete suggestions.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

They took stool test, kidney, liver, pancreas function test, complete blood profile, and vitamin D. I do not have the reports right now with me. If you want, I will upload it in a couple of days.

Gastritis is there and digestion is taking more time. I pass motion three to four times a day. The first time, it will be normal and other times, it will be semisolid with gas. I do not know what to do. It is really becoming difficult for me to travel. Within four months, I have lost 12 kg.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would suggest the following medicines (some you may have already been on, but try this combination for two weeks).

  1. Tablet Pantop (Pantoprazole) 40 mg once daily 30 minutes before breakfast.
  2. Capsule Darolac (Lactobacillus) twice daily with food.
  3. Syrup Aristozyme (Fungal diastase and Pepsin) 5 ml twice daily with food.
  4. Tablet Rifagut (Rifaximin) 200 mg twice daily.
  • Avoid unnecessary worries, stress, and anxiety.
  • Have proper diet which includes well-cooked home food and hygienic water.
  • Avoid canned and bottled drinks.
  • Avoid excess spicy, masala-based foods and excess coffee.
  • Weight gain will be slow. Monitor it again after two weeks.
  • Do not be anxious. Anxiety will increase bowel movements.

Hope your queries have been cleared. Do consider a review after three weeks.
