Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 32 weeks pregnant, and in today's checkup, my doctor said I have less Hb, which is 8.7 g/dL, and gave me L.arginine water for ten days. I am confused why she gave me that pouch.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

Haemoglobin is 8.5 g/dL, and it is really less for a healthy pregnancy. I suggest you correct your hemoglobin by iron supplementation by IV (intravenous) iron or blood transfusion. The body needs normal hemoglobin at delivery as in case of heavy bleeding, or difficult labor, normal hemoglobin is required, otherwise, low hemoglobin can risk life. Arginine, I would not suggest it in this situation as I do not have any idea, or maybe some history is missing in your query. My suggestion for you is that you can have injectable iron to correct hemoglobin and prepare the body for delivery. Have food with iron, like apples and carrots.

I hope you get my point.

Best of luck.
