Is it safe to travel if I have been detected with a low lying placenta?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been detected with a low lying placenta. Distance is 0.5 inch from os. Can I travel in this condition?

Answered by Dr. Usha Mohan

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are 18 weeks pregnant now. A lot of women have a low lying placenta at this stage of pregnancy. The placenta, in most cases, usually migrates to the upper segment as the pregnancy grows. But you need to take another scan at 32 to 34 weeks to confirm it. In some women, it remains in the lower segment. If you are going to travel by flight, it is safe. But, if you are going to have hectic travel on a bumpy road or a lot of walking/trekking, please avoid it. Slow walking is fine.
