I got hard bumps behind my ear and neck. What are these?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female. I got a hard bump behind the ear lobe before few days. It does not hurt or itch but it seems to be hard. After two days, I got a similar hard bump on the back of my upper neck and it seems to be present inside. It is present close to my ears. It does not itch but it hurts a lot depending on the direction when I turn my head. I am not taking any medications.

Hi,

Welcome to our portal.

There is absolutely nothing that you need to worry about. A lump on the post aural region indicates an infection of the scalp or temple or cheek and it may or may not be symptomatic. Even a subtle fungal infection or dermatitis such as dandruff can be the reason for having these symptoms. If you have any symptoms related to the scalp, then you need to evaluate and treat them accordingly. If there is no absolute symptoms associated with it, then it needs to be evaluated by a trichologist as soon as possible. Specific treatment is needed.
