Did genetic mutations cause lung cancer in my husband at 40?

I cannot stop thinking about why a 40-year-old non-smoker would be diagnosed with advanced stage 4 lung cancer. My husband is that person, and we are completely shattered. He has never smoked a single cigarette in his life, exercises regularly, eats healthily, and has no family history of anything serious.
His first symptom was a persistent cough, which we thought was due to seasonal allergies. By the time the CT scan and PET scan were done, the lung cancer had already spread to his liver and adrenal glands.
His oncologist ordered comprehensive genomic profiling and found an EGFR exon 19 deletion mutation. He has now started on osimertinib 80 mg daily.
What we do not understand is how someone so young and healthy develops such aggressive lung cancer without any obvious risk factors. Could environmental exposures, such as air pollution or radon gas at home, be responsible?
We live near an industrial area, so I am now worried about that. His ALT levels are slightly elevated at 52, and his oncologist is monitoring his liver closely. Can the mutation alone explain this without any lifestyle factors?

Drugs like Osimertinib are intended to act as inhibitors for the abnormal signal formed due to the presence of such a mutation. Regarding the ALT(alanine aminotransferase) value of 52, this represents a mild elevation. This can occur due to liver involvement by the cancer or occasionally as a medication effect. Regular monitoring of liver function, as your oncologist is doing, is the appropriate approach.
