How is an impacted and tender wisdom tooth treated?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My lower left wisdom tooth is partially erupting. It is a horizontal impaction, slightly swollen, and hurts when touched with the tongue and during eating. Earlier, when it happened, it was minimal, and it went away within days.

Now, it is happening again. It is difficult to get an extraction right now due to my work, but I can if it is an emergency. I am wondering if it is acceptable for me to wait for two more months.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The wisdom tooth will have to be extracted on both sides eventually. Otherwise, the pain will keep on increasing. I can suggest antibiotics like Augmentin (Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate) three times a day for a week, along with a painkiller to get relief. Still, you will need to get an early appointment.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
