Can masturbation cause yellow penile discharge?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a tight foreskin, so I rarely pull the foreskin back. Recently, yellow liquid discharge has been coming from my penis. About an hour ago, I masturbated and decided to pull it back to wash it, as I thought it was because I was masturbating.

It is now all swollen on the band of skin under the tip of my penis, and whatever I do, I cannot pull my foreskin back over the tip. It just happened today. I usually can pull it back over when I do.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Based on your description, it appears that you may have developed phimosis, likely secondary to a penile infection. This condition can make it difficult or impossible to retract the foreskin over the glans.

The presence of yellowish discharge is strongly suggestive of an underlying infectious process, which may require prompt evaluation and treatment.

I recommend that you undergo a comprehensive screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to identify any possible cause of the discharge.

In addition, it would be advisable to consult a qualified surgeon or urologist for further assessment of the foreskin condition.

Phimosis typically does not resolve on its own and often requires medical or minor surgical intervention. If left untreated, it may lead to complications such as paraphimosis, which can be painful and may require emergency care.

As a precaution, it is best to avoid all forms of sexual activity, including masturbation, until the condition has been properly evaluated and treated. About the yellow discharge, the discharge could be due to the following:

  1. Balanitis (infection/inflammation under the foreskin).

  2. A sexually transmitted infection (if you are sexually active).

Once the immediate issue is resolved, you should see a doctor for the following:

  1. Examination.

  2. Possible antibiotics or antifungal treatment.

  3. Advice on managing tight foreskin (sometimes stretching exercises, steroid creams, or circumcision).

For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me anytime.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thank you.
