Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from loose motions for last two days. Now loose motions are under control but too much of body pain and I am very weak. I am just eating curd rice for lunch and dinner and idly in the morning. Please give me some guidance for food. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read through your query in detail. Please find my observations below. Since you had loose motions two days back, it is suggested that you take clean and hygienically prepared food for at least two weeks. Idli in the morning and curd rice for lunch and dinner is a good choice. You might also include food that will not irritate your intestine. Toasted bread or biscuits and milk or tea can be good snacks. Taking fruits which you like are also good. There are cereals like ragi, oats, corn flakes which are hygienically packed and can be had with banana and milk. You might have plain rice and dal without spices if you wish to have something salty. Roasted papad can also be taken for taste. Pongal cooked with low oil can also be taken for lunch. Avoid chutney and pickles for a week. Loose motion also causes the good bacteria in intestine to disappear. You can take tablet Sporlac-DS (combination of zinc and lactic acid) one tablet thrice a day for five days to restore good bacteria and prevent loose motion. For body pain you might take pain relief medicine after taking food or use ointments. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Are cool drinks and oral drinks better to have or not? And is it better to drink honey mixed with water? Please suggest.

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing back with an update. Oral fluids and fruit juices are recommended in adequate quantities. Please keep ORS (Oral rehydration salt sachets) at home and take in small quantities for a day or two if there is tiredness and dehydration. Problem with cool drinks is with manufacturing and storage. It is possible that you might again fall sick if there is contamination and right now you cannot believe any company food product. It will be good to have fresh juice at home and take it and honey with water is also recommended. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care. Regards.
