Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 1 year and 10 months old with 12 kg weight. She is having a fever of around 103 degrees Fahrenheit. I gave 2.5 ml Meftal P.

When should I give her the second dose of Meftal P or should I give her Dolo drops after four to five hours? She has no symptoms of any cough or cold. Does she require any tests?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Meftal P (Mefenamic Acid) can be used since her temperature is a little high. But the dose is insufficient. She needs 3.5 ml of Meftal P. It can be used three times a day for three days maximum.

After which, you can also use Dolo (paracetamol) syrup in a dose of 3.5 ml. But what I have found works best is wet cloth sponging. Undress your child completely and keep wiping the body with a wet towel dipped in room temperature water for five to ten minutes, and you will notice the temperature drop two degrees immediately. Repeat every hour or two hours until the temperature is normal.

The child may shiver a little. In that case, stop and try again.

Thank you.
