Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is suffering from a high fever. His weight is 28.66 lbs. He had a fever of about 101.9 degrees Fahrenheit , and I gave him 5 ml of Meftal-P at around 1 am. The fever shot up to 103 degrees Fahrenheit at 6:30 am, less than six hours of the gap. Can I give him Meftal-P within six hours again? Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If the fever reoccurs frequently and in high temperatures, you need to start an antibiotic. Meftal P (Mefenamic acid) cannot be used for more than three days.

I suggest you give him the syrup Paracetamol 250 mg 4 ml every four hours till the temperature comes down. The best way is to sponge the entire body with room-temperature water for five minutes every hour. Also, it would help if you started the syrup Azee (Azithromycin) 200 mg 3.5 ml once a day for three days only. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent. Please feel free to contact me for any further queries.

Thank you.
