Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have soreness on arm and scabs but when the scab falls off, it does not heal. An original sore was small rounded with a crust. Sore is over a year old. I am using aloe vera cream and steroid cream for a month.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have noted your concern and I have viewed the images (attachment removed to protect patient identity). I can see a crusted plaque. This could be either in situ carcinoma (Bowen's disease) or a squamous cell carcinoma. I can see signs of photodamage in the background, lots of sunspots. I suggest a skin biopsy. Do you have any symptoms like pain or itching?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

There is no pain or itching. A little bleeding is there. Would you rule out melanoma?

Answered by Dr. Sushil Kakkar

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

My first possibility would be either a squamous cell carcinoma or Bowen's disease since this is a sun-exposed site. Melanoma is a less likely possibility. It is usually dark or pigmented whereas this is a red, crusted patch.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
