Can a one-month interval between periods and the last intercourse be considered ideal to avoid pregnancy?

Hello doctor,

My menstruation period and my sex have a one-month duration. Is it safe for me to avoid pregnancy?

Please help me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

How are you doing?

For a young lady like you usually, ovulation occurs around the 12 to 16th day of the period. The life of an egg is 24 hours and that of sperm is 72 hours. So as you can imagine you are in a safe zone. A month after periods, the egg will not be available till 1 month period and sperm will not be available till the next ovulation. So there is no chance of pregnancy. If your periods are irregular then you will have to calculate the date of ovulation. Ovulation day is determined based on your period's duration. For a lady with 28 days cycle, ovulation will be on day 14, that is 14 days before periods. So if your cycle is regularly 30 days, ovulation is on day 16, and so on. The first day of bleeding is day 1 of the cycle. Now if your cycle is irregular, the calculation is the longest cycle minus 8, and the longest cycle minus 11 is the duration of ovulation. For example, your longest cycle is 34 days and your shortest cycle is 27 days. 34-8= 26, 27-11 = 16, So between 16-26 will be your ovulation.

Hope I have clarified your query, do write back if any more queries at icliniq.com.

All the best, take care.

Thanks and regards.
