Can I postpone my periods just by a day?

Hi doctor,
I have an unavoidable family function coming up when my periods would also start.
I have never used any medicine to postpone my periods.
My monthly cycle is of 28 days. My periods would start on the last day of this month, which I need to postpone for a day.
Could you please prescribe me some medicines for the same with lesser side effects?

I understand your concern.
Though it is possible to postpone your periods, it is not possible to just do it for a day.
We give the tablet Progesterone (synthetic form) and then stop it to cause withdrawal bleeding. The bleeding usually starts after quitting the tablet for two to seven days.
It may be possible to postpone for the particular day but we cannot predict when the withdrawal bleeding will happen after stopping the tablet. It can occur between two days to a weeks time.
That being said, you can start taking the tablet Regestrone (Norethindrone Acetate) 5 mg twice daily, four to five days prior to your expected periods' date, and continue it till the day you want the postponement to happen. You can then stop the dose and periods will start anywhere between two to seven days.
Taking the tablet later than five days will not be effective.
