Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female, and I have irregular periods. Sometimes I get them every other month, even three months apart. Currently, I have not had mine in two months (since my last one). I was just wondering if it was serious if I should go to the doctor for it and if it would prevent me from having children in the future. I have always had irregular periods except when I took birth control then I had them every month on the same day. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. Getting periods every 21 to 45 days is considered fairly normal. In your case, I feel you are overweight. So that is causing the change in the hormones. Leading to irregularities with the periods. It is advisable to reduce weight using diet and exercise up to 121 pounds which is an ideal weight for your height. You can take tablet Norethisterone 5 mg twice a day for five days to get a period, provided your pregnancy test is negative if you are sexually active. It would be advisable to do serum FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), and prolactin levels on the second or third day of the period calculating from the first day of the period when you get period after tablets and follow up with the report. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
