Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 24 years old. For the past two years, I have been having an irregular period cycle. My doctor recently suggested me to get my exam Pap smear. I have gained 60 pounds in the last three years. When I was younger, I had the HPV shots. I am nervous about the pap smear and having an irregular period cycle. Should I be worried about uterine cervical cancer? I have not lost weight. I do not have pain. I recently had a yeast infection, and I am still healing from that. So when I had intercourse last time I felt a little discomfort in a certain position. I started spoofing today, and I am having normal PMS symptoms sensitive boobs, and I do not bleed in between things. I read that cervical cancer takes 15 years to be invasive, and I am scared.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
You should not be afraid of pap smear, having pap smear test does not mean cancer it is only a routine check-up. Your irregular cycles may be due to the hormonal problem, and there is no relation with cancer. You should do an ultrasound test of the pelvis and blood tests for sugar PP (postprandial), TSH (thyroid-stimulating), prolactin, and testosterone. Depending on the report, treatment is available.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Is my irregular period cycle related to cervical or uterine cancer?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is almost not a sign of cancer. The commonest symptom of cancer is irregular bleeding in between menstrual periods and bleeding after sex. But you have delayed irregular periods, which is rarely associated with cancer. In any case, you should do the tests. I do not think that you have cancer, but tests should be done to get rid of anxiety.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
I have an appointment next month. I think since it has been two years, I would be having other complications.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Go for the doctor appointment. Two years is not a factor, it is common and usually occurs due to hormonal imbalance. Chance of non-hormonal problem is low and can be treated easily.
