Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

From last year I have spotting between my regular period. Last month, I had spotting for 34 days till my period started four days back. I did FBS, serum pregnancy test, CBC and platelet, CT, BT, protime, urinalysis, and transvaginal ultrasound. I want my results to be interpreted. And I need consultation on what to do next. Based on the ultrasound, I have a prolapsed endometrial polyp. I do not know what it is, and I cannot go to the doctor this week. Please help. Currently I am taking contraceptive pills, multivitamins and Iron tablets.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The endometrium has numerous glands, and endometrial polyps are an overgrowth of these endometrial glands that protrude into the uterine cavity. These polyps are benign. Endometrial polyps usually are asymptomatic, but in some patients, they may present with abnormal uterine bleeding, which in your case is spotting between your periods. Secondly, these polyps may interfere with your infertility. Regarding treatment, it depends upon symptoms and fertility issues. Small symptomatic polyps regress spontaneously, but since you have a giant polyp and are symptomatic, the polyp needs to be removed. The removal technique is hysteroscopy done by the vaginal route, and you will not get a scar and will get discharged from the hospital after 24 hours. If you have any other queries, do contact me.

Regards.
