What could cause placental abruptions and blood clots in a female?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a late miscarriage at 22 weeks and four days due to placenta abruptions because of blood clots.

Do you know what might have caused the blood clots?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please send me a description of detailed obstructive gynecology medical and drug history. Many reasons, such as medical complications like coagulation disorders, autoimmune antibodies (antiphospholipid antibody, lupus autoantibody), poor placentation due to high blood pressure or sugar levels, thyroid abnormalities, an abnormal fetus with congenital anomalies, premature rupture of membranes due to local or fetal infection, any sexually transmitted infection could be the cause of this.

Go for a complete checkup of yourself and try to have full regular treatment accordingly. Take folic acids daily, 5 milligrams. Eat a healthy diet (less salt, sugar, oil, and spice). Daily walk and exercise to maintain BMI (basal metabolic index) and weight and do recreational activities. In case of multiple consecutive miscarriages, you need to have thrombophilia screening to check autoantibodies. Premature cervical dilatation causes premature birth or miscarriage. If that happened to you, you could have cervical stitches in the early second trimester to avoid the previous history.

Thank you.
