What could cause a delay in periods after taking a contraceptive pill?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my intercourse a month before and took a pill within the next two hours but have not got my period yet. I did the pregnancy test four to five times but it came negative are the chances. Am I pregnant?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. Periods coming will depend on multiple hormones. Your weight is the only factor that looks to be too low. Maybe that is stopping you from having the normal levels of hormones and the following periods, this might have been tipped by the pill. Your timing of the pill was good, so I do not think you are pregnant. If I may suggest, have a last urine pregnancy test, if done more than four to five days back. Once confirmed negative, have any of the oral Birth control pills or contraceptive pills like tablets. Novelon or Ovral-G or Duoluton-L or Dear 21 or Intimacy plus 3 - have one tablet twice a day for 10 days (throw away the 21st pill), no matter what the cause is (except pregnancy) you will have periods within seven to 10 days of the last pill. To rule out other causes, have a thyroid profile and serum prolactin done. I hope I have clarified your query, do write back if you have any more queries.

Thank you.
