Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I recently noticed a slightly raised mole on my arm over last weekend. It is light colored and similar to the color of my skin that blends with my spray tan a bit. When I press firmly on it, it feels tender. Otherwise, I do not have any pain. I have a dermatologist appointment scheduled for next month. Is this something I should be concerned about? I had a basal cell cancer removed from my back before two years. My current medication includes Niacin and Melatonin at night.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have reviewed the attached photographs (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The mole is looking normal to me. There is no need to worry about it. Go ahead with your dermatology consultation and get it examined dermoscopically to rule out any problem.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your answer.
Does the pain I experience when pressing on the mole raise any red flags? It is not a pain that I would notice by just brushing my arm, but only when I press firmly on the mole. It is not a major pain, but noticeable. Please explain.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Normally, a mole is totally asymptomatic. It should not be painful. Mild pain in a mole on pressing can also be due to an impending inflammation beneath its surface. I would recommend you to keep it under observation as grossly it is looking normal and go ahead with your dermatological consultation. If it shows any sudden change in size, shape, color, oozing, bleeding or itching, then you can prepone your appointment with the dermatologist. I hope this allays your anxiety.
Thank you.
