Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

This mole has been there forever and my dermatologist noted as one to watch along with a few others. She said it was raised on one side and that luckily most melanomas are flat. Now I stare at this mole constantly wondering if it is growing. I have been reading about nodular melanoma, as it is slightly raised. It is brown, symmetrical and 2 to 2.5 mm maximum. I have such health anxiety. Could you please help? I have had two wide excisions of dysplastic moles, which has led to my worry over melanoma. Currently, I am taking Sertraline 50 mg.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your case in detail. Well basically it is not the matter whether the mole is raised or flat. Basically, it is the change noticed by the doctor or the patient himself. By change, I mean change in size, shape, symmetry, color, and other symptoms such as itching and bleeding. All these symptoms raise the suspicion of developing melanoma.

Your lesion has been static then you need not worry. Moreover, it does not look malignant to me as well. Just relax about your present condition. But however, keep on reviewing your lesion after every three months. Just relax.
