Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old girl, and was diagnosed with a mood disorder by my therapist (psychologist) who gave me some homeopathic medicines. I feel my situation is worse, I have good days and bad days. But lately, I have attempted to scratch my body skin and bite my palms. I knew what I was doing in that state but I still continued to do so. There are recently more sad days than happy ones. I need to know if I am diagnosed right. And if I am diagnosed wrong what is my actual problem? And also is taking medications safe if yes please prescribe the same. I also have no money in the current scenario to continue my therapy sessions. Please help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You may have a borderline personality disorder. It is a type of personality nature. You may have a chronic feeling of emptiness, emotional outbursts, overwhelming behavior, and self-harming behavior. You mostly feel that no one understands you in this world. You may have difficulty keeping the relationship for a long time. You may have frequent job-related issues, and anger outbursts. There is non-pharmacological management for it. You should try to follow the below guidelines for it.

1. Do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk.

2. Meditation for 20 minutes daily, just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing, do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts, just let it be. This will help you to deal with your mood swings.

3. Eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.

4. Spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if you are living away from your family.

5. Spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.

6. Take enough seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

7. Avoid tobacco or alcohol or any substance abuse.

8. Live your life, do not just spend it.

9. Be bold and confident.

I suggest you start capsule Fluoxetine (Fluoxetine hydrochloride) 20 mg daily in the morning after breakfast. Consult your specialist before taking the medication. It is a schedule x drug and it can not be prescribed on telemedicine as per government rules.

I hope that you get your answer.

Thank you
