Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got a stomach bug this morning. I had severe diarrhea and throwing. I am starting to feel a little better.

I noticed that the stool had turned to water and had a lot of clear mucus. The same episode had happened a few months ago, so I booked a colonoscopy after three months.

Do you think having all this mucus is serious?

Answered by Dr. Jagdish Singh

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It looks like indigestion or food poisoning.

So I suggest,

1. Oral rehydration salts or Electral or coconut water.

2. Capsule Racecadotril (antidiarrheal) 100 mg three times daily.

3. Capsule Pantoprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Domperidone (antiemetic) once daily before breakfast.

4. Tablet Norflox (Norfloxacin) 400 mg twice daily after meals.

I suggest for five days.

You should be better with the above medicines.

Avoid juice and milk for the time being.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

What is causing mucus? I do have a stomach virus, as my grandchildren had.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Mucus is also due to stomach infection, so nothing to worry about. It maybe due to viral or food poisoning and treatment is the same for both.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
