Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I feel as if I have multiple personality disorders. I have started noticing it now as I have been home for a while for summer break but when I think of school it seems that I had been switching between two personalities between home and school, but I really cannot remember school very well. I remember a few selected things like little snapshots and I cannot even remember my schedule. Also, I noticed this one specific thing where at school I would always wear my jacket whether I had it on or around my waist. I just want to know if this is something that I should legitimately be worried about or if it is just a basic code-switching type of thing that I would not really need to see a psychiatrist about. Also, it would be great if you could tell me if this has any sort of bad side effects.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. You are just 19 years old and at this age, it is not normal to develop multiple personality disorder. Multiple personality disorders fall into dissociative identity disorders and usually, these are seen after the third decade of life. The symptoms you are having like inability to remember the episodes at school could be occurring due to poor focus or anxiety. Keeping of jacket at school but putting it off at home might be the part of anxiety. In intrusive thoughts due to anxiety such symptoms can be seen. I would suggest you try ignoring these symptoms and avoid thinking about them. But if these symptoms are resulting in distress and are causing problems in functioning or school performance then please talk to your parents and visit a psychiatrist for evaluation.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
