Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Recently, I have been experiencing spasms in my upper back. I have poor posture and make an effort to keep my back straight, but when I do, my back muscles become stiff and fatigued, leading to pain and spasms. Additionally, I have started noticing symptoms in my hands, shoulders, and elbows. During these spasms, I also experience palpitations, and I am wondering if these are related to the spasms and upper back issues. My symptoms tend to resolve when I return to my natural, though curved, posture.
I would appreciate any guidance you can provide. What should my next steps be?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The pain in your upper back is likely associated with poor posture. However, it is important to determine if you have any issues with walking, such as weakness in your legs, difficulty maintaining balance, fever, or breathing problems. If the pain is solely due to poor posture, muscle relaxants along with customized back exercises may help alleviate it. You can find videos of back exercises online. I recommend getting an X-ray of the lumbar spine (anteroposterior and lateral views) and consulting with a physician to rule out any heart conditions. It is better to rule out potential diseases than to live with uncertainty.
A physical examination or video consultation could help identify the underlying cause of your symptoms. Once a diagnosis is made, we can consider starting a regimen of simple analgesics, muscle relaxants, and customized exercises, provided that your heart health is normal.
Please let me know if you have any other concerns.
Thank you.
