Hi doctor,
Recently, I have been experiencing upper back spasms. I have bad posture and try to keep my back straight, but when I do, my back muscles become stiff and tired, causing pain and spasms. In addition, I began to notice symptoms in my hands, shoulders, and elbows. I have palpitations during the spasm and would like to know if this is related to the spasm and upper back issues. My problems go away when I return to my natural but curved posture. I would appreciate it if you could assist me. What should my next steps be?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The pains in the upper back are associated with bad posture. However, it is imperative to know if you have any issues with walking. Any weakness in the legs? Any difficulty in maintaining the balance? Any fever or difficulty in breathing? If the pain is simply due to a bad posture, some muscle relaxants with customized back exercises could help cure it. You can watch videos of back exercises on the internet. I would recommend an X-ray of DL spine AP and lateral views and a consultation with a physician to rule out heart ailments. It is better to rule out a disease than to live with it. A physical examination or a video consult could help determine the correct reason for the ailment. Once diagnosed, we could start a simple analgesic, muscle relaxant, and customized exercises if the heart is perfectly fine. Please feel free to let me know in case of any other concerns.
