Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My mother's bypass surgery was done two years back, but she is still experiencing pain in the areas where stitches were applied. Sometimes the stitched area gets swollen, which is tremendously painful. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am sorry to hear that your mother is still experiencing pain and swelling in the area where stitches were applied after her bypass surgery. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for patients to experience discomfort in the area where stitches were applied after surgery. Still, it is important to have it evaluated by a medical professional to ensure no underlying issues. There are several possible reasons for ongoing pain and swelling in the area where stitches were applied after surgery, including infection, inflammation, or an allergic reaction. It is also possible that the stitches may not have dissolved or been removed properly, irritating the surrounding tissue. I would strongly recommend that your mother follow up with her surgeon or primary care provider as soon as possible to have the area evaluated. Depending on the underlying cause of the pain and swelling, her surgeon may recommend medication, wound care, or further testing to determine the best course of treatment. Thank you.
