Do pain and yellowish discoloration of nails indicate fungal infection?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having pain in my big toe. Now the pain is gone, but the nails turned slightly yellow and stopped growing. All my other nails are totally fine. What could this be and how should it be treated?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Fungal infection indeed is very problematic if it becomes recurrent. So I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Do not keep the area wet at all. Use powder frequently to keep it dry.
  2. Avoid itching and do not scratch it.
  3. Do not apply general or steroid creams like Betnovate etc.
  4. Do not stop the medicine once you cure. Continue medicine for a long time to completely kill the fungus.
  5. Avoid excessive sweating and wet clothes.
  6. Apply Terbinafine cream and take a tablet of Fluconazole 150 mg twice in a week for 2 months.
  7. For itching take the tablet Levocetirizine 10 mg twice a day for 2 weeks.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
