Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 90-day-old male baby has conjunctivitis from birth in his right eye. We consulted with an Ophthalmologist. But still, there is an issue. As of now, we have given Toba eye drops and massage near the tear vent.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. Watering of the eyes is most of the time normal in newborns. It happens because of a block in the tear duct which usually resolves spontaneously by six months of age. You would have to just do a tear duct massage (check videos on the internet) for six months. You would have to consider it as conjunctivitis only if pus-like discharge comes which jams the eyelids with redness or swelling. If your baby has been diagnosed with conjunctivitis but not getting relief with Toba eye drops- get a gram stain and culture (lab test) of the discharge or request your doctor to get it done, this will confirm- what eye drops will work for the infection and whether there is an active infection now. I will not be able to prescribe eye drops online without the above information or directly seeing the baby.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
