Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My nephew is on Koselugo for NF1 ((neurofibromatosis), and I am concerned about potential side effects. Can you please explain what side effects are possible with this medication? How severe are they, and are there any specific signs we should watch out for? Ensuring his safety during this treatment is a priority. He has many small bumps on his skin, and although he is eager to play with his cousins, he is hesitant due to fear of teasing from other kids about his appearance. We are anxious about this situation. Can this medicine lead to a permanent cure?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

NF1 (neurofibromatosis) is a gene that can either be mutated or inherited from birth. If your nephew has NF1, Koselugo is a suitable drug for treatment. Fortunately, Koselugo (selumitinib) typically does not have severe side effects; the minor ones include vomiting, nausea, and dizziness. Even with long-term use, major side effects are not expected based on available data. It can be continued based on previous information. While we can not guarantee a complete cure, Koselugo is designed to reduce the impact of the disease and provide protection against it.

If you have further questions, feel free to ask.
