How do I know if I have a healthy immune system?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My waist size is slightly longer than average, and my body mass index (BMI) is somewhat higher than average. I saw some peer-reviewed journal articles that said the immune system would be weakened if people are obese, and the obesity-induced adipose tissue will persist with weight loss. I am not sure if my immune system is normal or has been weakened because I am overweight. Can you please tell me if my immune system is acceptable?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, this is true that obesity leads to a weak immune system and many diseases. There is no specific test that can tell whether your immune system is vulnerable or not. But yes, you can go for antibody levels. The only sign is that you will get frequent infections. Just have a healthy life. Exercise daily for 30 minutes. Eat healthy food, fruits, and vegetables. This will naturally boost your immune system.
