Does vitamin supplementation help with mouth ulcer healing?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a small mouth ulcer at the tip of my tongue for the last six days, and I am not getting cured. So I am taking due precautions like very soft food with curd, fruits with vitamin B complex, and multivitamin tablets. But the ulcer is not getting cured.

Please suggest some antibiotics to cure the same, so I can recover quickly.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Mouth ulcers can be painful. However, taking antibiotics for this condition is not a good idea. Since you have just one ulcer, an antibiotic is not indicated for your condition.

I suggest you some tips to help relieve your condition quickly. Please continue taking the multivitamin tablets for two weeks. In the meantime, avoid all spicy food and tea or coffee. Dehydration could cause mouth ulcers, so drink at least two to three liters of water a day. Stress or lack of sleep can cause mouth ulcers. So check if you get seven to eight hours of quality sleep daily.

Apart from this, I suggest you to apply Lignocaine hydrochloride gel on the ulcer for 10 minutes before you eat anything. This will help relieve your pain to a great extent.

However, please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.

Lastly, if you have gastritis irritation or acidity, that could be another reason for mouth ulcers. So avoid spicy food, tea, and coffee.

I hope that helps.
