Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had indigestion problems, acid reflux, headaches, and constipation for the past two months. I was diagnosed with antral gastritis by my gastroenterologist. I took endoscopy and colonoscopy. I was administered Controloc in the intravenous route. I was prescribed tablet Ganaton thrice daily and tablet Dexilant 30 mg twice daily for a week. My physician reduced the dose since I had constipation. So I took tablet Dexilant 30 mg once daily and tablet Ganaton twice daily. After a week, I had diarrhea for about two weeks. In the next review, my physician asked me to stop the medications. I did a stool sample test and got a negative result for any bacterial or viral infection. But my vitamin D test result showed that I am deficient. So I was prescribed with tablet Vitamin D 1000 IU once daily. Now, I am suffering from bouts of acid reflux, brown-colored stool, bloating, and severe belching. When it happened three years ago, I took tablet Ganaton and tablet Dexilant 30 mg for three weeks. I will be traveling soon. Should I continue my medications? Are my symptoms related to these medications?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Acid reflux is a common medical condition. Your doctor is right, and the symptoms are due to the side effects of tablet Ganaton 50 mg (Esomeprazole). I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Dexilant 60 mg (Dexlansoprazole) for three days to reduce acidity and its related symptoms. Did your physician perform a biopsy along with an endoscopy? Because biopsy detects helicobacter pylori infection.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

There was no helicobacter pylori infection. Should I take tablet Controloc 40 mg with tablet Ganaton 50 mg?

Answered by Dr. Ajeet Kumar

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Tablet Controloc (Pantoprazole) is less effective than tablet Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) 60 mg. Tablet Ganaton (pantaprazole and itopride) 50 mg is used to treat indigestion and symptoms of acid reflux after meals.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
