Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 19-year-old and have a son who is turning four years old this year. I wanted to ask you. Last year I was told by the doctor that I had an ovarian cyst on my left ovary, and I had a cavity of some sort also. The cyst was bigger than 5 cm. I was scheduled for an operation, but when I went for a check-up, the doctor said that it was getting smaller and was no longer needed for the operation. However, there was a smaller cyst now on the right-hand side. I was also diagnosed with hepatitis B. I have not had my period since last year and have taken multiple pregnancy tests, all negative. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand from your history that you are 19 years old lady with a BMI (body-mass index) of 29.7 with hepatitis B (how long what medications not known) and having secondary amenorrhea (absence of periods) since last. Around four years, you had scheduled surgery for a left-sided ovarian cyst of greater than five centimters a year back but postponed as the cyst reduced in size along with the appearance of a right-sided cyst. As the urine pregnancy test has been done multiple times and has been negative, I suggest you try the following:

1. Have a few blood tests and ultrasounds so that you can have an idea of the ovarian cysts.

2. Any other abnormal findings in Pelvis on ultrasound and Blood tests, including serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) for safer side to exclude Pregnancy.

3. Serum insulin, serum prolactin, serum LH (luteinizing hormone), and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone).

4. Thyroid function tests, serum progesterone, and Ca 125 (cancer antigen 125) level only if the ultrasound shows abnormal findings and a cyst larger than five centimeters.

5. Liver functions test as well.

I will wait for your lab result for a better understanding.

Kind regards.
