Common "Ovarian Torsion" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Ovarian Torsion

Ovarian torsion occurs when the ovary becomes twisted around the tissues that support it. Fallopian tubes also get twisted. The blood supply to these organs gets stopped. This is a medical emergency condition, and in untreated cases, loss of the ovary occurs. The symptoms are severe pelvic pain, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal bleeding. It often occurs in patients having ovarian cysts. Surgery is the only option that treats ovarian torsion. If it occurs due to a cyst, then it is removed first, and fallopian tubes and ovarian are untwisted to have proper blood flow.
