Could Oxycodone affect brain and cause panic attacks?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I took Oxycodone and mixed it with alcohol two months ago. I did not drink a lot but ended up with the worst panic attack. I did not go to the hospital. A week later, everything was fine, but I had some stressful events in my life. Now, I am experiencing anxiety, and it is not controllable. A lot of overthinking and I am wondering if Oxycodone could be the one to blame. I have had anxiety way before, and it just went away. But, now it is occurring again. Could Oxycodone affect my brain terribly? I had a blood test a month ago, and everything was normal.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It is not due to Oxycodone because its plasma half-life is 4 to 5 hours. It is completely eliminated or metabolized by the body after 12 hours, so there is no question of the previous drug causing such anxiety episodes.
I would suggest you consult a physician or to take Chlordiazepoxide 10 mg two times a day. Also, include 20 minutes of exercise in your schedule apart from the daily routine activity because the body gets acclimatized to that schedule. Because, that would cause secretion of endorphin, which is an antidepressant hormone.
It is very common to have anxiety episodes these days, so do not worry. Take care.
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
