Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My physician changed my medications. I was taking Opana 15 mg twice daily. Now I am taking Morphine Sulfate 15 mg twice daily and Norco 10/325 daily, which will stay the same. My concern is, how will switching from Oxymorphone 15 mg to Morphine Sulfate 15 mg make me feel? We planned to reduce the medications, but I am afraid it is a drastic reduction. I have been taking the Opana for the past two years. I am worried about this reduction.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query.
I understand your concerns. Oxymorphone (Opoid analgesic) is thrice stronger than Morphine sulfate, meaning 30 mg of Opana is equivalent to 90 mg of Morphine Sulfate. So reducing the opioid painkiller, you take could be insufficient to suppress the pain. So I suggest a more gradual reduction. But I am afraid you could experience withdrawal symptoms if the dose is low.
Also, why do you take these opioid painkillers?
I hope this has helped you.
Kindy follow up with the answer.
Thank you.
